The story of how the Nazis planned to create vast game reserves with the help of Germany’s leading scientists is striking for its defiance of the laws of nature. Some of these plans of the Third Reich continue to fascinate scientists and historians around the world. It is known that the Nazis sought to revive species that had long been extinct. Scientists from the SS worked on recreating prehistoric animals for their own purposes. These creatures were intended to be used for the entertainment of the so-called ‘master race’. It was an attempt to subjugate history and alter the natural course of evolution. It all began in the Białowieża Forest, where the 321st Battalion distinguished itself in particular. Accounts of their atrocities have survived to this day.
