Родился 1 ноября 1939 года, село Томашевка, Уманский район, Черкасская область.Актер, режиссер. Народный артист Украинской ССР (1979). Лауреат Государственной премии Украинской ССР им. Т. Г. Шевченко (1978).

Окончил Киевский театральный институт (1961, мастерская Владимира Нелли). После окончания института играл в Запорожском украинском музыкально-драматическом театре. С 1965 — актер Львовского украинского драматического театра им. М. Заньковецкой, с 1987 — главный режиссер.
