Родился 4 августа 1925 года в Кургане.В 1952 году окончил ГИТИС. С 1952 года — актёр Московского драматического театра при ЦДК Железнодорожников, с 1957 года — артист Московского театра на Малой Бронной, с 1966 года — артист Московского театра имени Ленинского комсомола, с 1971 года — актёр Театра-студии киноактёра. В кино — с 1956 года (первая роль — Василий Кругликов в фильме "Долгий путь").

Народный артист РСФСР (1986).

Ушёл из жизни 1 января 1996 года в Москве. Похоронен на Ваганьковском кладбище Москвы (участок № 24).
