Родился в Рино, штат Невада. Крис рос на Гавайях, в Сиэтле, и Пенсильвании. После окончания Американской академии драматического искусства (Лос-Анджелес), Браунинг быстро начал свою карьеру, в минисериале "Дети капитана Гранта". Позже он появился на телевидении в ситкомах "В доме" (In the House), в главной роли LL Cool J, и "Hardball", а также снимается в сериале "Как вращается мир" (As the World Turns).

На данный момент Крис - преданный отец и муж, а также страстный сценарист. Проживает со своей семьей - жена Сара и дочь Лидия - в Нью-Мексико.
