Родился 31 декабря 1957 года в Барнауле.Заслуженный артист России (2002).
После окончания школы два года проучился в Барнаульском институте культуры. Служил в армии - при театре Советской Армии.
В 1981 году окончил ГИТИС (курс А.Гончарова).С 1982 по 2006 год работал в Российском академическом Молодежном театре. В 1999-2006 годах - в театре "АпПАРТе".
Жена - актриса Ирина Аугшкап (Серова).Сын - актер Александр Серов-Останкинский.
