Родился 3 февраля 1959 году.
В 1976 приехал в Италию как корреспондент турецкой газеты, закончил Римский университет La sapienza, где изучал историю искусства и кинорежиссуру, затем учился в Академии драматического искусства. Работал в «Живом театре» Джулиана Бека и Джудит Малина. Начинал в кино как ассистент режиссёра.
