Родился 28 марта 1932 года.
Заслуженный артист РСФСР (3.10.1973).Народный артист России (26.01.1999).
В 1954 году окончил Театральное училище имени Б.В. Щукина. Играл в Московском драматическом театре им. К. Станиславского (1954-1999).
Последние годы с сыновьями и супругой - актрисой Майей Менглет - проживал в Австралии. Был актером Русского театра имени Варпаховского в Монреале (Канада).
Скончался 30 мая 2015 года в Мельбурне, Австралия.
