Младший из пяти детей в семье Триши и Эндрю Кокс. Родился в Лондоне, но вырос в Восточном Сассексе. Закончил Шерборнскую школу (Sherborne School) в Дорсете, где учился актёрскому мастерству.

За исполнение различных ролей в театральных постановках в школьные годы получил от школы Премию Джеральда Питмана за актёрское мастерство (Gerald Pitman Award for Acting). В дальнейшем закончил Школу Бристольского театра Олд Вик (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School).

В настоящее время живёт в Лондоне с братом.
