Родился 15 марта 1955 года в Таллине.
Служил в авиации ВМФ 1975-1977 годах в городе Реутово Московской области. До призыва на службу учился в пединституте, после 1 курса призвался на флот.
В 1981 году окончил Высшее Театральное училище имени Б.В.Щукина (курс Л.В.Калиновского) и был принят в труппу Московского театра имени Ленинского Комсомола (ЛЕНКОМ).
Народный артист РФ (2008).
Жена — актриса Татьяна Рудина.
