Родился 25 октября 1952 года.

Окончил режиссерский факультет ВГИКа. Работал на студии "Киевнаучфильм". Его документальный фильм, посвященный Сергею Параджанову — «Опасно свободный человек», — собрал едва ли не все высшие награды на фестивалях кино, а также стал номинантом российской национальной премии «Ника» в конкурсе лучших иностранных фильмов 2005 года. Автор книги «Телевизионная режиссура» и многих сценариев для своих фильмов.

Заслуженный деятель искусств Украины.
