При рождении Стивенсу дали имя Стивен Фишер. В 1987 году он вместе со своим давним другом Недом Айзенбергом (англ. Ned Eisenberg) вступил в театральную труппу «Обнажённые ангелы» (англ. Naked Angels). Также он является владельцем кинокомпании GreeneStreet Films, расположенной в Нью-Йорке. Стивенс принял участие в записи альбома The Raven Лу Рида.
