Карьеру в кино начал с небольших ролей в сериалах.
Первым полнометражным фильмом, в котором в главной роли снялся Аксель, была фэнтези-комедия «Муравьи в штанах» (2000), где его партнером по съемочной площадке стал Тобиас Шенке.
