Михаил Черняк родился 13 ноября 1964 года в Ленинграде. В 1981 году закончил лицей № 395, после которого проступил в ЛГИТМиК на факультет Драматического искусства (кафедра Актёрского мастерства). Учился на курсе Корогодского З. А.. В 1985 году, после окончания актёрско-режиссёрского курса института, Михаил Черняк поступает в труппу Молодого театра.
С 1991 года актёр Молодёжного театра на Фонтанке, начинает работать и как режиссёр-постановщик театра.
