Родился 8 мая 1952 года в Свердловске; отец - актер театра имени Маяковского Адольф Ильин.
Окончил Новосибирское театральное училище. Начинал работать в Новосибирске, потом в Минске, Воронеже в городе Озёрск на Урале. В 1979-2008 годах - актер театра им. Маяковского.
Заслуженный артист России.
