Родился 14 апреля 1958 года в Глазго (Шотландия). Со стороны матери он имеет ирландские корни, со стороны отца — итальянские. Окончил высшую школу St Ninian's High School в Киркинтиллохе, после чего поступил в Школу искусств Глазго. Там он был вокалистом в панк-группе Dreamboys, барабанщиком в которой был будущий известный телеведущий, актёр и режиссёр Крейг Фергюсон.
