Родился 20 июля 1954 в небольшом городке около Денвера, штат Колорадо, в США. В молодости продавал билеты в кинотеатр отца. Стал продюсером своего первого фильма ("Хищник") в 1987 году. В 1985 году основал собственную кинокомпанию «Davis Entertainment», председатель совета директоров которой является на данный момент. В августе 2005 года журналом «The Hollywood Reporter» был признан самым плодовитым продюсером Голливуда.

Кроме фильмов, транслировавшихся в кинотеатрах, продюсировал также и телефильмы "The Jesse Ventura Story", "Little Richard" и некоторые другие. Летал в космос вместе с Марком Ли.
