A psychopath kidnaps and kills young women across the Midwest of America. FBI, confident that all the crimes were committed by the same person, instructs the agent Clarice Sterling to meet with a prisoner maniac, who might explain the psychological motives of the investigation of a serial killer and thereby bring them to his trail. The prisoner, psychiatry Dr. Hannibal Lecter, serves a sentence for murder and cannibalism. He agrees to help Clarissa only if it she feeds his sick imagination with details of her complicated personal life. Such ambiguous relationships do not only cause an internal conflict in Clarissa's soul, but also confront her face to face with a mad genius.
