England, the XI century. Mother of a ten-year-old Rob Cole is dying in terrible agony: no one knows the nature of her illness or medication against it. Little Rob, shaken to the core, strives to unravel this mystery no matter what it takes. He is destined to go a long way from England to Persia, first his teacher becomes an ordinary charlatan Barber, and then - the great healer Avicenna. The wise teacher sees the extraordinary talent for medicine in Rob, but advises him not to rush to do things that do not correspond with their century. But Rob stops at nothing in his desire to learn how to save people from death, and his own life becomes threatened, because he twice went against prejudices: he used the human body for the research and fell in love with a woman who was married to another man.
